Dr. Anita Chopra why your neck maybe hurting.
Your neck does much more than look down at your phone!! It holds the weight of your head everyday, this can be upwards of 11 pounds. With many bones and muscles, everything needs to work correctly to move optimally. Changes in your posture, injuries, chronic de-conditioning and inflammatory conditions can be causes for the pain in your neck. We can often attribute the pain in your neck to a specific muscle, bone, disc or nerve.
A stiff neck can cause us to have limited range of motion (checking your blind spot an issue??), localized pain or even pain that travels. Muscle spasms can occur to help limit how much you move so that you aren’t moving a joint incorrectly.
There are a variety of different types of joints in the body. In the neck.there are a pair of sliding joints. If the joint gets stuck or if a muscular adhesion forms (a “knot”), the body will compensate for awhile. Over time these compensations can cause additional changes and problems.
If your neck is stiff, it is your body’s way of saying “look at me”. Even if the pain goes away, it maybe in your best interest to see a chiropractor. We can help evaluate proper movement patterns and muscular tone and help prevent future episodes of neck pain.
Dr. Anita Chopra is your local family chiropractor. If you are experiencing neck pain or any other musculoskeletal issues give the office a call at 416-873-4218 to book your appointment.
